You may have read about the Library signing up to the JISC National eBooks Observatory Project on this blog in November 2007. We would now like to hear from you about what you think of the ebooks available via this NeO Project. The links above direct you to a page where there is more information about the project and the survey itself. Your responses will guide the outcome of the project so do take part. There is a £200 worth of Amazon vouchers to be won.

Just to refresh your memory: in a nutshell the aim of this national project is to investigate the potential of electronic textbooks to the higher education community, and to gather data for publishers on possible business models. In collaboration with JISC and selected publishers, participating HE libraries are offering a selection of core texts free of charge to their members for the next two years. A total of 36 textbooks ranging from medicine to media studies, and engineering to business and management are now available to use. Students and staff may access this content with their Athens username and password via two different platforms. MyiLibrary hosts the content for engineering, media studies, and business and management. The Ovid platform hosts all the medical titles. The 36 texts available via the project may also be located via the Library Catalogue. In the near future, Library Staff will be contacting academics in departments to disseminate information about ebook provision at the Library, and providing demos to students. Contact the eResources Librarian for further information, comments and feedback via email. The eResources Librarian is available for further information via email.

Metalib and EndNote training sessions for students and staff

Posted by sametti on November 15, 2007

It’s that time of the year of again when we offer special training sessions on how to use Metalib and EndNote. You may already have attended various excellent training sessions run by your Subject Librarian on the right online resources for you and how to find them. The Metalib sessions offered this November are general in nature and do not concentrate on any particular subject area. So, if you’ve never used Metalib before and want to learn, or your skills have gone rusty, join us for one of the talks on Metalib and/or EndNote.

We run two sets of sessions in the coming two weeks. The lunchtime training session talk is given by the Systems Librarian Polly Dawes. Polly will demonstrate how Metalib search results may be downloaded to your EndNote libraries. The other talks are held in the evening on Metalib itself. I will be demonstrating how Metalib can not only be used as a tool for locating online resources, searching across more than one database but also for organising your favourite databases and journals, automating searches, and saving search results in Metalib. During the evening session you will also have a chance to try Metalib yourself and learn the basics.

Neither session requires booking and we even offer tea and coffee to keep you going. If you need help deciding whether to attend have a look at the introductory page for Metalib where you can also login and have a peek at the service itself. Every member of the University of Bradford will have access with their UoB userID and password.

All sessions take place in the JB Priestley Library Room 1.7
